Epic Woman Camp Day 8: 40K TT and some more swim, bike run…

It is hard to believe it is all over.  Day 8 has come and gone and Epic Woman 2011 is complete.  It was a huge success!  I will write more of an epilogue soon…but for Day 8:  Another EPIC day :)   I am so thankful for the group of women who came to the camp – you all rocked it and it was an amazing opportunity for us to all learn from each other.  Let’s do it again next year!

We all rolled out at 6am to ride to the start of the 40K TT race.  It was an out and back course with some wind and some good rollers…  Cowman held our bikes (if we said yes) and each rider went off 1 minute apart.  As I started the TT, my legs were screaming at me as I attempted to sprint off the line in too big of a gear!  I thought I might not make it after 7 days of insanity training…but I am happy to report I managed to pull off a great ride…1:01:37 and apparently I am “State Champion”!  Today’s training brings me to a total of 51 hours of training (and A LOT of ascending) in 8 days!

During the TT, I was on a mission to catch a couple speedster time trialists in front of me, and on even more of a mission to make sure the super fast Suzanne didn’t make up any time on me.  I saw her after the turnaround and knew she was riding well.  After the KOM yesterday where Suzanne rode amazingly well, I was cycling scared because I was worried she might catch me.  Man, is this girl strong!  Fortunately I saw the four goats on the side of the highway just past the Waikoloa Village Rd. on the way back because they all ran in front of me across the highway but I slowed down to completely avoid them and while I slowed to almost a stop, I did not have to put my foot down.

We all biked home after the TT for a total ride of 102kms (except for Lisa and Iona who tacked on a couple kms by cycling from their hotel) and I think we all bonked at some point along the way.

After a good fuel-up with pancakes and turkey bacon (ok, so maybe a bit much pre running!?) we ran to the pier for a swim to and from the Kings Buoy, and then to Lava Java to celebrate the finish!

The green jersey is awarded to Ann for the highest ranked “old fart” but really, she was third overall…A well deserved prize Ann “Schleck”!  Ann is strong, consistent and just so impressive.

I will update the points and placings tomorrow…but after a big meal at the Kona Brew Pub and a couple drinks (oh, and 8 days of INSANE training), it is time to sleep!
Good times!!!

Good night!

Tara, who is very tired but very proud of her campers!
