EWC Day 7

Hard to believe there is only one more day left.  I am sad that it is coming to an end, but also happy I will get to spend the ENTIRE day with my wee TWO year old!  I can’t believe she is now two!  Maya shares her birthday with Wendy so we had cake and Maya got to open some awesome presents!  Sweet!

This group of women is awesome.  We have learned so much from each other all week and I can see how strong everyone is getting.  I will be strongly encouraging a solid recovery week (+) once all is said and done TOMORROW, so that the new found fitness can be attained!  It is hard for these women (me included) to rest and after such intensity for 8 days, the let down once it is all over can be quite overwhelming, so resting isn’t fun.  Did I mention that I am really proud of everyone!?  I am also happy to see new friendships and bonds have formed after sharing such intensity together.

The day started with an ocean swim and everyone seemed particularly quiet as we approached the swim start.  Suzanne and I spoke about how much we were not looking forward to the cold ocean AGAIN, but once we started, we got it done and it was perfectly fine.  Something to remember moving forward…sometimes starting the session is the hardest part but once you do, it feels great.  Following the swim, Jo decided we would cut the 9Km run to a 5K run.  Comical, because earlier in the camp Jo made a funny comment that I was getting soft in my old age when I decided not to tack on Kms (or something like that - I can’t quite remember the details right now in my Day 7 fuzz), and here she is, finally cracking just a little bit,  and offering up a shorter run!  We also decided it would be a good Birthday present for Wendy.

The bike was a ride (mostly into a headwind) to Orzola (the most Northern point of the island that I have never been to) with a KOM from there to the top of Mirador del Rio.  The climb was about 9kms or so and I pushed hard, happy to experience some higher intensity again and finished in 1st, just 4s ahead of Suzanne who had no one to chase down.

It was nice to have the run and swim done once we rolled in on the bikes and I had some fun Maya playtime before a much needed treatment with Lorenzo, a yoga session with Thomas (Maya did yoga too) and a BBQ spread a-la-Trisports which was seriously ENDLESS!

Play of the day definitely goes to Iona who inspires me.  This woman just gets it done!  Not only does she persevere with nausea with open water ocean swimming, keep pushing with a splitting headache today, etc., but she has done 4 x 18K runs on this camp!  Congrats My Sharona!

Good night, it is time to rest up for the biggest ride so far…the toughest Ironman in the world!
