day6

I had the thought during the morning’s specified 3k swim that the motto of EpicWoman camp should be “Shattering mental limits while shattering physical limits!” It never ceases to amaze me how far we can push our bodies if we let go of preconceived limitations. If you had told me that I could swim a 10k yesterday, and then hop into the the water the following sunrise for another 3k without question (including a set of 10x200m on the clock for a bonus point!), I’d have called you crazy. Who’s the crazy one now?!? I had a remarkably enjoyable swim, followed by yet another delicious and nutritious breakfast (keeping Jo’s fueling suggestion from the previous nite talk in mind ;) ).

Today’s ride was shortened a bit because of the high winds (which turned out to be ‘only’ 25-35mph gusts–fairly normal by Lanza standards), so I decided to try to get the ride knocked out as efficiently as possible and do a longer run today.

Josta and Iona and I are fairly evenly matched in terms of ride-style/pace, and were of a similar mindset today about tacking onto the day’s minimum run, so we rode together and got it done and got back before the winds REALLY picked up.

Iona and I set out pretty soon after we got home, and had a delightful 2.5 hour/18+ k run on road and trails down to Puerto del Carmen the along the ocean cliff track thru Puerto Calera until the road ended. She gave me helpful hints for Ultraman–which she’s an Expert ;) )–which i desperately welcomed (thanks, my Iona!)! Then we retraced our path with a short foray into the edge of PdC in search of liquids/nutrition. The winds were pushing aggressively against us a large part of the trip back (no problem for us seasoned epicWomen ;) ), but we made it home….in time for Thomas’ yoga session, which felt awesome!!

Okay. I’m seriously tired right now. But at the same time, I had the thought that in a week, I’ll be thinking back nostalgically about this whole experience (which I have yet to absorb on any level)…..it’ll feel like a very distant memory, and I’ll miss it all–good times AND tough times!

Two more very huge days to get thru….(unlike past camps, Saturday will be the longest ride of the week!!)
