Epic Woman Camp Day 1 – Arrival

After a long flight, I safely landed at Kona Airport. The trek from YYZ to KOA was quickly a distant memory as soon as I walked out of the plane into the amazing smell that exclusively resides in Hawaii. YUM! I made it to the baggage carousel and patiently waited for my bag & bike. I noticed a celebrity looking girl who resembled Kate Upton?? Anyway, you could tell she wasn’t here for Epic Woman Camp.

The crowd at the baggage carousel began to dwindle and my heart rate started to increase by a few bpms…where is my bag & bike? The quintessential black suitcase, borrowed from my dad, peeked through the opening and I began to feel better. I went to where my bike should be showing up and ….and…and…and…and…where is my bike? I began to wonder & ponder about all the things that could have happened to my two wheeled baby. I looked around and noticed that the only people left waiting at the baggage carousel was another woman & me. We both received the disappointing news that both of our bikes did not make it across the Pacific from LAX. The scoop was that my bike would arrive tomorrow, the woman at KOA baggage claim was very friendly and helpful under the circumstances. I prayed to the cycling gods to keep my bike safe and hailed a cab to take me to Epic Woman Camp home base. I was greeted by the ladies in the camp and all were genuinely concerned about my bike. I immediately felt like I was with a bunch of ladies who could feel my pain as they all tried to ease my mind. I was shown to my room…which is “HUGE” and flopped into the massive bed to sleep.
