Epilogue

[Immediately upon returning to the mainland, I started on a course of Cipro; within 2 days, it killed whatever GI critter I’d battled from Day5 on. I’m somewhat reassured that my ordeal was not the result of poor hydration/nutrition, although this was a minor consolation for all I went through!]

Having the advantage of surviving the inaugural EpicWoman camp last year, I had arrived in kona with a tad bit more knowledge than the other campers of what this week held in store for us. However—as I suspect the epic camp experience is guaranteed to do—what actually transpired was pretty much still unimaginable!

Lessons learned at epic camp (AGAIN):
1) Check your aspirations at the door when you arrive.
2) Do the same for your expectations—of limitations, perceived effort, performance. This is an alternate/parallel universe to normal life and training; be open to possibilities.
3) Don’t let calamities get in the way of the experience; they ARE the experience.
4) Tears will occur as fatigue sets in…tears of anguish, frustration, relief, joy.
5) Appreciate every bloody moment of the camp!

Gods willing, I’ll be back to take care of unfinished business next year……

Thanks and big hugs to Eric, David, Etienne, and Tara for all your patience and unflagging support! And kudos to every one of the campers for providing inspiration and motivation to push thru the camp—let’s do this again sometime!
Cheers,
lisa
