Day 7- I don’t think we’re getting any closer

Day 7 started off LAZY for me.  I felt super guilty but not for that long…slept in till 6:50!!!  I’ve been up everyday between 5-5:45 so big difference.  The day started off with all of the campers, apart from me, heading out for a 20km run.  I took the time to wake up and eat as much food as humanly possible.  When everyone got back I ate again.   We then headed out for our ride, which started with the 20km climb we did on Monday, then down to Captain Cook beach.  The decent was AMAZING!  You could see the beautiful beach and the road was a windy one which I found fantastic.  When we got to the beach we quickly changed into our swim gear and off we went.  David, Michelle and I formed a line with David leading the charge.  It was supposed to be a 1.5km swim to the Captain Cook monument but I really think it was much longer.  It took us FOREVER and it honestly felt like we weren’t getting any closer.  Now I have to tell you, the water was crystal blue and you could see everything when we got close to shore. There were some beautiful fish and coral and unfortunately for us no dolphin sitings.  Apparently this bay is well known for swimming with the dolphins.   Water was super deep and I was very glad that I had company for the swim as I can imagine I would have been pretty freaked out on my own.  The swim back was way quicker as I think that we had the current with us.

We had a great lunch all set up for us when we got back.  Shoved a bunch more food into me and off we went.  Now we had another King of the Mountain competition up the same mountain I thoroughly enjoyed going down.   My legs were so fried from yesterday and I didn’t even run!   I can only imagine how all the others felt.   The climb was just over 6km which took me 28min. and placed me 3rd, behind T and Dr. Z.  Surprisingly I really enjoyed it.    The ride home started off with another few km of climbing then a wonderful decent down the Queen K hwy.  We rode to the house then decided to tack on another 20km to get our extra point for a 90km total ride.  We stopped off at Starbucks for coffee and almost missed our 7pm cut off.  Made it through the gate with seconds to spare.

Can’t believe we’ve completed day 7…..omg it has gone by so fast.   It’s been such an amazing experience and even though I’ve dreaded every climb we’ve done I really don’t want it to end.
