Day 7: Hawaiian Punch Drunk

Lisa and I just stumbled into the hotel room, both of us babbling incoherently after what we thought was going to be an EASIER day. We thought wrong!
For sure, Lisa has more reason to be incoherent: she has been pushing through on virtually no calories, ever since a nasty intestinal thing took over about 2 days ago. My only excuse is: it’s day 7 at Epic Camp!
We started out the day with a 20km run. I didn’t feel too badly, but it sure was slow. I stopped at Lava Java at the 12km mark and grabbed a quick iced americano (ahhh! heaven!!) and a bagel.
We headed off for a bike swim bike at 11am. The bike ended up being our time trial piece from Tuesday, with at least 1000-1500 feet of climbing over 5.6miles. We then descended down to Captain Cook for our 3km ocean swim. I had taken a Dramamine at the house before we left, but the ride ended up being longer than expected. So, before the swim, I took 2 more. It was a good thing, too. The bay was absolutely beautiful, and the water a rich azure colour. I saw a sea turtle and lots of yellow fish as I swam away from the beach. Thanks to Karlynn’s swim tips, I felt like I swam in a pretty straight line, but it was choppy and took about 40 minutes to get to the monument. The swim back was choppier, but somewhat faster. After a quick lunch, we did another time trial up the road – gaining probably 1500feet in 4+ miles. Oof. I felt thirsty on the way up, and kept seeing things to tempt me: shaved ice stand, beer sign, Pepsi truck. Lisa and I added onto the ride to do an errand to the bike store. I don’t know if we’ll get a bonus point for an extra 30km, but right now, I don’t care. I can barely think straight and want to just fall into bed. But, I got through the day! I don’t feel like I am getting sick, and I have remained safe and un-injured.
